Shiver: Vanishing Hitchhiker is a hidden-object game with a mysterious theme. The story is about a driver who picks up a hitchhiking girl. After dropping her off near a town, he notices that she forgot something in his car. The object is from his distant pass, and he can't figure out how it got in the hands of the girl. He returns to the town where he had dropped her off, and the adventure begins.
First off the artwork is simply amazing, the level of detail that went in designing this game is at least one step higher than most hidden-object games. Also it is a lot more interactive. The scenery moves instead of being static, and it has nice 3D depth.
The gameplay is similar to other games from the same genre. In order to advance, you need to find items scattered all over the place, which are used to unlock more areas and parts of the storyline. A very nice thing about this game is that, most of the object searching is with a purpose. Other games will just make you search for items which have no real impact in the game.
It has two difficulties you can choose from: casual and advanced. The casual mode is very easy to play, and you will get a lot of hints, which will guide you. In the advanced mode however, you still get hints, but not at the same frequency and the hint bar will recharge considerably slower. One great feature the game has, is the flashlight. Since the game has a mysterious theme, many places will be very dark. You can use the flashlight to light up your viewing point. Another nice feature is the Camera, which is essential for story elements. Sometimes you'll see ghosts wandering by in the game and you need to quickly take a picture of them. The flash from the camera will reveal their true form.
SHIVER: Vanishing Hitchhiker is an overall great game. The story is very interesting, the gameplay is much better than other games and it satisfies both casual and hardcore players with its two difficulty settings.
